I have previously interviewed our current President, and our President-Elect, but what is the Immediate Past President position all about? I sat down with Mandy Valiquette, who is our current Immediate Past President as well as our VP of Membership, to find out what she does in those roles and a little bit more about her.

Q: Hi, Mandy! Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions about your position on the board. Before we get into that, where do you work and can you talk a little bit about what you do?

A: I am the Volunteer Development Manager at the Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU). I manage nearly 600 credit union members who volunteer to be a part of our Advisory Council. We meet with them regularly and communicate via two social media outlets to keep them up to date on all things Credit Union. They provide feedback and promote LGFCU to their colleagues.

Q: Very cool! So, in addition to your job, what position do you currently hold on the NCAVA Board?

A: I currently hold two positions and they are Immediate Past President and VP of Membership.

Q: Wow! I bet that keeps you busy. Have you held any other positions in the past?

A: I have been on the Board since July 2014, and have served as Social Media Coordinator, VP of Professional Development/Board Chair, President-Elect, and President.

Q: You have done it all! If anyone is interested in joining the Board you would be a great resource. Let’s focus on the two current positions you hold. Can you tell me a little bit about what your role is and what you do?

A: As the Immediate Past President, I assist the President and President-Elect as needed. I also help maintain our database of Past Presidents to maintain a connection to NCAVA’s history as well as access to their wealth of knowledge.

As the VP of Membership, I Keep up with new members and send out membership renewals for our Individual Members, Organizational Members, as well as our Affiliate Organizations. I also partner with the President-Elect to help organize our Regional Directors and their recruiting efforts.

Q: What goals are you actively seeking to accomplish this year?

A: I want to see NCAVA's membership grow - it is such a wonderful organization that all volunteer administrators should be a part of.

Q: How has being on the board benefited you professionally?

A: I have learned so much from the workshops and networking, obtained my CAVNC, and made some lifelong friends.

Q: You have held a ton of leadership positions on the board. Do you have any recommendations for anyone interested in stepping up to the challenge?

A: If you have a passion for what you do and want to give back in some way, check us out! Anyone of us would be more than happy to speak with you.

Q: What advice do you have for new volunteer coordinators?

A: Managing volunteers can be challenging but look at the challenges as opportunities.

Q: Very good advice to hear! Volunteer coordination takes a wide range of skills. What job or experiences other than volunteer coordination prepared you for this job?

A:  Working with my children has helped me, as patience is important as a parent, as well as when working with people who are doing things from the kindness of their heart rather than for a paycheck.

Q: That is the truth! You are so busy with NCAVA, work, and raising two adorable children. Do you ever find time to volunteer or have an organization you would enjoy giving back to in the future?

A: I volunteer at my oldest daughter's school, my youngest daughter's daycare, for the town clean up days and at church, with the ladies circle I am a part of.

Q: Mandy you are a powerhouse and an inspiration! I don’t know how you do it all. If you were to take off work, where would you want to be or to go visit?

A: I’d like to be home or somewhere by the sea!

Ah yes! A nice escape to the coast sounds amazing right about now. Mandy, thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us. I look forward to seeing the results of all of your hard work with membership this year!
