Scholarships and Awards

We encourage our members to nominate colleagues for either our scholarship to conference or for our awards listed below. You may nominate throughout the year, but awards must be in by April 1st as they will be presented at the Statewide Conference in May. Those submitted in May or later will roll over to the next year’s statewide conference.


Wiley Leonard Conference Scholarship

NCAVA gives away scholarships to attend our Statewide Conference on Volunteerism based on the funds raised at the previous year’s raffle to help support those seeking professional development.

To be considered for a scholarship, applicant must:
-Be a current NCAVA member in good standing
-Have not attended the NCAVA Statewide Conference on Volunteerism in the past two years

*Scholarships cover the cost of conference registration only! Awardee will still need to pay for travel/lodging.

Linda Dameron award

The Linda Dameron award is presented annually to a current NCAVA Board member who showcases the following:
- For exhibiting commitment and dedication to the profession of volunteer administration;
- For displaying leadership and loyalty to the members of NCAVA; and
- For continuing to the success of NCAVA’s mission as a member of the Board of Directors.

Marsha Riddle lifetime achievement award

The Marsha Riddle Lifetime Achievement Award is annual presented to a someone, who throughout his or her career who:
- Earned the respect of both volunteers and professional colleagues
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership
- Significantly contributed to the profession of volunteer administration

*The recipient of the Marsha Riddle Lifetime Achievement Award does not have to be an NCAVA member.

Volunteer Administrator of the year

The Volunteer Administrator of the Year Award is presented annually to a current NCAVA member for:

-Earning the respect of both volunteers and professional colleagues
-Demonstrating effective leadership
-Managing available resources
-Contributing to the profession of volunteer administration

This award is presented annually to a current NCAVA affiliate organization for:
- Providing quality service to the communities it represents
- Enhancing the professional development image of volunteer administration
- Promoting volunteerism and the recognition of volunteers
- Encouraging involvement in NCAVA
